October: Apple Intelligence and maybe more?
Apple has said Apple Intelligence will roll out for the iPhone 16 lineup, as well as the 15 Pro and Pro Max in the U.S. at some point in October, ahead of a wider rollout over the next year. While the exact date of the launch is unknown, there are also plenty of rumors of Mac and iPad updates coming this month too. It wouldn’t be a big surprise; after all, Apple has often had October reveals, even going so far as to put on a Halloween-themed “Scary Fast” event last year.

September: The iPhone 16 event
This is the big one; you can almost set your calendar around Apple rolling out its new iPhones in the beginning of September. This year, during its “Glowtime” event, Apple continued its AI focus, threading it throughout the pitches for its new iPhone 16 models and Apple Watch Series 10, and finding ways to incorporate it into the new AirPods 4.
One of the biggest reveals was that Apple Intelligence would not come alongside the launch of iOS 18, or the debut of the iPhone 16 phones. Instead it’s coming to U.S. customers in October, with a December rollout in other largely English-speaking markets. It will debut in more countries across the world in 2025.

June: WWDC 2024
Where there’s a tech event, there’s a focus on AI, and WWDC was no different, with its clear focus on revealing Apple Intelligence, its AI infrastructure that’s launching across its various operating systems, including iOS 18 and iPadOS 18. And what does Apple Intelligence actually do? “As far as the consumer is concerned, the technology will mostly present itself in the form of new features for existing apps.”
Apple also announced support for RCS in Messages, the addition of ChatGPT in Siri, more naturalized language within Siri, macOS Sequoia, and other updates over the course of the event.

May: iPad Pro, iPad Air, and Magic Keyboard updates
Apple refreshed its iPad lineup in May, though it was focused on its two higher-end models: the iPad Pro and Air. The regular iPad remained the same, while the new models benefited from the inclusion of the M4 chip for the first time in Apple’s hardware. The Air now starts at $599 for the 11-inch model, the standard iPad’s price dropped to a $349 base, and the Pro, with an OLED screen to boot, begins at $999.

March: MacBook Air reveals
The MacBook Air line saw a refresh with new 13- and 15-inch models equipped with the M3 chip, with the laptops starting at $1,099 and $1,299, respectively. While Apple pushed the new Air models as “the world’s best consumer laptop for AI,” our own review found it to be “still the best Mac for most.”

February: The Vision Pro launches
After its much-hyped reveal during 2023’s WWDC event, Apple released the $3,500 Vision Pro AR/VR headset into the wild, and the community has so far been … largely whelmed. Our initial impressions of the headset have held relatively true throughout the year: It’s a technically impressive piece of hardware in search of a use case.
It’s also yet to take off like earlier Apple products have, receiving scant mentions throughout Apple’s subsequent WWDC 2024 and iPhone reveal events. Now the Vision Pro faces tough fan Reddit threads and vanishing apps.
Apple’s 2024: The iPhone 16, iOS 18, Apple Intelligence, and yes, the Vision Pro
Apple typically packs the year with new product reveals and software updates, though it’s not every year it kicks things off with brand-new hardware like the Vision Pro. Though that’s yet to take off, Apple’s focus is clearly on its AI platform Apple Intelligence, which has been a through-line across every iPhone, Watch, and iPad announcement through 2024.
